ProtocolProof

Privacy policy

What we collect, and what we don't. This is a static reference site that uses Google Analytics 4 to see which guides are read — the full spec is below.

ProtocolProof is a static website. We don't run user accounts, and we don't ask you to log in or hand over personal information to read anything here. This page explains the limited data involved and how affiliate links work.

What we collect

Like most websites, our host records standard server logs — IP address, browser type and the pages requested — which are used only to keep the site running and secure. Page measurement is handled by Google Analytics 4, described in the next section.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

Think of this as the spec sheet. Provider: Google Analytics 4, from Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd. Data collected: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location at city or country level, device and browser type, and session timing. IP addresses: Google Analytics 4 does not log or store them. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation: off. The data is not used for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Cookies: two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, with a lifetime of up to 2 years, set only once analytics is allowed. Consent: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland a banner asks first, and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept; in other regions analytics defaults to on and can be switched off at any time. Global Privacy Control: a browser sending it is treated as opted out. Storage of your choice: your browser's local storage, key analytics-consent — not a cookie.

Changing it: Cookie settings reopens the banner. Further reading: Google's privacy policy and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, which blocks GA on every site.

Email sign-ups

If you enter your email address to be notified about protocol changes, we use it only to send those updates and nothing else. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we will never sell or rent your address.

When you click an outbound link to a VPN provider, that provider (or its affiliate network) may set its own cookie to attribute a sign-up to us. That happens on their side, under their privacy policy, and only after you click. We explain the commercial side on our affiliate disclosure page.

Your choices

You can browse without accepting marketing cookies, block cookies in your browser, and email [email protected] to ask what data we hold about an email sign-up or to have it deleted. This policy may be updated as the site changes; the version here is current as of 9 October 2026.
